Hospital malnutrition is a highly prevalent yet frequently under-recognized and under-treated condition. The prevalence of hospital malnutrition varies according to patient population, screening and assessment methods, and hospital setting; however, it is generally estimated that 20-50% of hospitalized patients are malnourished at the time of admission and approximately one-third of patients who are not malnourished on admission may become malnourished during the course of hospitalization. Certain patient populations, including surgical, critically ill, geriatric, pediatric and cancer patients are known to be especially susceptible to malnutrition. Malnutrition in hospitalized patients is associated with significant adverse clinical consequences, including infectious and non-infectious complications, increased length of stay (LOS), more frequent readmission, impaired wound healing, and increased risk of mortality. Additionally, poor clinical outcomes due to malnutrition contribute to increased healthcare costs and impose a substantial economic burden on healthcare systems.

The theme for this event is “Latest update in nutritional problems: integrated approach”, and current medical topics will be presented based on guidelines and evidence-based medicine. We hope this event will update and widen the knowledge about the importance of nutritional therapy as one of pivotal modality in the treatment of hospital malnutrition cases in Indonesia
